Jammu, Jan 11: The highest seat of power, the civil secretariat had to taste darkness for an hour as the protesting employees of the Power Development Department on a collusion course with the police in their failed bid to reach secretariat. As the ding dong battle went on between cops and PDD employees for over an hour Monday evening, power supply was turned off to some parts of the secretariat. This right wing of third floor of the main block of civil secretariat had no electricity for an hour and half late this afternoon. Earlier Police foiled the Civil Secretariat gherao bid of PDD daily wagers employees and detained over 50 of them when the protestors were marching towards Civil Secretariat in support of their demand of regularization. The Power Development Department (PDD) daily wagers who today continued their protest on 51st consecutive day and marched towards Civil Secretariat were stopped from making a bid to gherao the secretariat. According to eyewitness, hundreds of PDD Daily Wagers assembled at Power STD Division I, behind Civil Secretariat and held a protest demonstration there. As the protestors attempted for a march towards Civil Secretariat, police in large numbers stopped them and didn’t allow to go ahead the barricades erupted by the police keeping in view of imposition of Section 144. Police tried to dislodge the protest of PDD daily wagers which led into scuffle between police and protesters. Reports said, over 50 PDD daily wagers were detained by the police. ‘Agitated over the police action for not allowing them to go towards Civil Secretariat, the protesting PDD daily wagers reportedly shut down the power supply of the Division,’ eyewitness added. The drama continued for a long time in STD Division I of Power department. Protestors said that 12 days back Power Commissioner assured that their demands will be consider soon but unfortunately nothing was done in this regard. They reiterated that they will continue their agitation till the Govt not concede their genuine demands. It is to mention that Commissioner/ Secretary Power B R Sharma had already given assurance to release the wages of 12 months of the workers within seven days. He also gave assurance to expedite the process of regularization.
