| Rehabilitation package for handicrafts artisans in offing: Dilawar | | | Srinagar, October 08 Government is contemplating a comprehensive plan to rehabilitate artisans of Kashmiri art and crafts including carpet weavers affected during over last 15 years of violence in the state. This was stated by the Minister for Tourism, PHE, Irrigation and Horticulture Mr. Mohammad Dilawar Mir while talking to a deputation of carpet and pashmina weavers and traders association which called on him here today. The deputation was led by its President Mr. Ghulam Qadir Shah. The Minister said the government is well abreast with the problems of the people associated with Kashmiri handicrafts as well as tourist industry which have been badly hit during last 15 years affecting livelihood of lakhs of people. The Minister said that a viable rehabilitation package for the affected artisans would be formulated shortly so that they could resume their trade activities. He said government would mobilize all its resources to give boost to the industry in the state which feeds a large chunk of population comprising of houseboat, hotel, restaurant owners, handicraft artisans, ponnywallas, etc. “Revival of Tourism will immensely help to improve living conditions of the people of the state”, the Minister said while seeking people’s cooperation to bring lasting peace imperative for revival of tourism.
