| Employees observe ‘Kam Chod Hartal’, paralyze working in govt offices | | Threaten 2 days strike from Jan 16 | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 12- The routine work was paralyzed in various government departments and public sector undertakings in Jammu when government employees observed one day token strike on the call of Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) and threatened to observe two days strike from January 16 if the government failed to implement the agreement reached earlier.
Alleging unsatisfactory response from the government towards the written agreement reached between Employees and Cabinet sub committee, the EJAC observed one day.
The employees of various government offices staged dharna and demonstrated at their respective offices while main dharna was held in the premises of SMGS Hospital Shalimar, Jammu.
They were raising slogans ‘State Govt Hosh Main Aao, Hosh Main Aao Hosh Main Aao’, ‘Hume Kya Chahiye Hai Apna Haq’ etc in support of their demands.
The protesting employees urged the Government to desist from delaying tactics and implement the agreement in letter and spirit. They demanded release of 6th Pay Commission arrears, enhancement of retirement age from 58 to 60 years, removal of pay anomalies of various cadres, conversion of COLA into DA of PSU employees, regularization of adhoc/ contractual/ daily wage employees and rationalization of HRA. Serving ultimatum to the state government to implement written agreement on or before January 15 otherwise they will observe two day token strike on January 16, 17.
Raising slogans in support of their demands the speakers charged the government of betraying the employees. They held that on August 18, 2009 Government has assured that all demands would be settled before October 31, 2009 but it has miserably failed in its commitment even after the deadline.
Speakers said that Committee reminded the Government many times of its promise and asked it to fulfill its demands, but nothing substantial came out till date. “Forced by the callous, deceitful, indifferent attitude and back tracking from agreement by the government, the Employees Joint Action Committee had called for observance of One Day Kaam Chhod Hartal today to press the Government for redressal of just and genuine demands and for implementation of various agreements and SROs in respect to employees”, the EJAC leaders said.
Earlier, large number of government employees assembled at Exhibition Ground for a dharna but due to imposition of Section 144 police did not allow them to hold demonstration there. Meanwhile, PHE Employees and Workers also staged rally from Chief Engineer Office PHE to SGMS Hospital where they staged massive dharna in support of their demands
