| Kishwan nominated member of expert group on low carbon economy | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 12: The principal chief conservator of forest, Jagdish Kishwan has been nominated by the planning commission, Government of India, as a member of the expert group to prepare a strategy for low carbon economy of India. The group has been assigned the task of reviewing existing studies on low carbon growth and low carbon pathways for India, conduct analysis and assess various low carbon options for the Indian economy and present a road map for Indian low carbon growth. The assignment shall also evolve an action plan comprising critical low carbon initiative to be undertaken including sector-specific initiatives with time line and targets starting 2011, that can feed into twelfth plan process. Kishwan, an Indian forest service officer (IFS) expert on climate change is a member of the core negotiating group of the government of India for the UNFCC and the former director general of the Indian council of forestry research and education (ICFRE), Dehradun. Earlier also Kishwan participated in the Copenhagen (Denmark) international climate change meet, as part of Indian delegation. At Bali summit, he was key Indian negotiator who put forth the concept of “compensated conservation” which subsequently metamorphosed into the much acclaimed negotiating plank for seeking financial incentives for conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stock.
