Chib, Sham inaugurate OPD block of Swami Vivekananda Hospital
147th Jayanti of Swami Vivekananda observed

Jammu January 12: Minister for Medical and Technical Education, Mr. R.S.Chib accompanied by Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma, today inaugurated the OPD block of Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission (Charitable) Hospital Ambphala at Jammu. The building has been constructed at a cost of 65 lakh.
The inauguration of the new block marks the 147th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
The Chairman of the Hospital and MLA, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, legislators, Mr. Ashok Khajuria, Mr. Khalid Najeeb Suharbardy, ex-legislators, Mr. Bali Bhagat, Mr. Brij Mohan Sharma, doctors, intellectuals and prominent citizens were present on the occasion.
Lauding the role being played by Swami Vivekananda Hospital in service of the needy and poor , Mr R S Chib said that it was doing yeoman’s service by providing free healthcare to those who cannot afford expensive medicare in private hospitals. He said that although there are many hospitals run by the Government and private managements but hospitals like Swami Vivekananda are being run voluntarily without any significant support from any quarter. However, Mr. Chib assured all possible help to the Hospital from the Government.
Mr. Chib assured the Management that a Ventilator for the Hospital will be arranged at the earliest.
Speaking on the ocassion, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma threw light on the life of Swami Vivekananda and said that throughout his life Swamiji worked for the upliftment of poor, downtrodden and fought for the equality of human beings. He served the mankind selflessly and advocated the cause of distressed, Mr Sham said and added that people should follow his teachings and adhere to the principles cherished by him.
Lauding the efforts of private health institutions in supplementing the Government efforts in providing quality medicare to the people, the Minister said that the Government was keen to encourage private players to invest in the health sector. . He assured all possible help to such ventures from the Government.
Referring to the steps taken by the Government to improve medicare in the Government hospitals, especially in the rural and far-flung areas, the Minister said that monitoring mechanism has been strengthened at the ground level and making every one at the helms of affair accountable. He said that Government has appointed over 400 doctors in different streams and assured that the remaining vacant posts will be filled up by ending March this year. He said that Government has also amended the existing rules and made it mandatory for new doctors of different categories to serve, at least, for 7 years in their respective areas. He said, in addition to this many more decisions had been taken to improve the services.
Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta gave a detailed resume of the activities of the hospital and said that efforts are being made to upgrade the existing facilities. He said that various steps have been taken to provide better services to the patients. He said that the hospital is rendering all medicare facilities to the patients free of cost and senior doctors are available for round the clock service. He sought adequate grant-in-aid from the Government and other voluntary organization for upgrading the facilities.
