| Slathia asks youth to become entrepreneurs | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, JANUARY 12 –“ It is better to became job provider rather than job seeker” , advised Minister for Industries and Commerce, Mr. Surjeet Singh Slathia to the unemployed educated youth of the State while inaugurating 5- day Employment Fair at Samba organized by the District Administration. About 65 stalls were put up by various Departments at the Fair to make aware unemployed youth about various Self-Employment Schemes. During the Mela, the experts provided guidance and counseling to the unemployed youth as well rural artisans to adopt income incentives available under the recently announced Sher-i- Kashmir Employment and Welfare Programme (SKEWPY) for Youth. The Employment Fair shall continue January 15, 2010. Expressing concern over hardships being faced by the unemployed youth, who wander from pillar to post to complete loan formalities, the Minister asked the banks to simplify the loan procedures so that youth could avail much required facility. The Minister complimented the District Administration for organizing the Fair, adding that it will go a long way to acquaint the unemployment youth about various self-employment schemes and incentives available in the industries sector as well as SKEWPY. Under SKEWPY, 35 percent seed money upto a maximum of Rs 3 lakh to undergraduates, 5 lakh to post-graduates and Rs 7.50 lakhs to technically qualified youth would be provided to enable them set up their own income generating units. He said that Handicraft, Handloom, KVIB & Agriculture sectors have vast scope for generating employment avenues for the youth and the officers of three departments could create massive awareness among people regarding these schemes. District Development Commissioner, Samba, Mr. Sourab Bhagat welcomed the Chief Guest and other dignitaries on the occasion and thanked departments for making the fair a grand success.
