No compromise on basic agenda of Congress: Saroori

Qazigund January 12: Asserting that the Congress party, under the dynamic leadership of Mrs Sonia Gandhi, was playing key role in the overall development of Jammu and Kashmir State, Minister for R&B, Mr. G.M.Saroori has said that programmes and policies adopted by the party leadership pledge nations’ integrity and prosperity. He said the secular character of the party would be maintained at all costs without compromising on its agenda.
The Minister was addressing a public gathering at Malpora Qazigund in Anantnag district after laying foundation of 5 bridges, costing more than Rs. 20 crore, at various places of the District today.
Mr Saroori said that the agenda of the Congress party was securing the unity and prosperity of the country, adding that the recent elections held in other parts of the country have testified the fact that people have rejected the communal politics. He said the policies and programmes of the party are being appreciated not only within the country, but also at global level. Mr. Saroori said that his party would fight against the communal forces with full might.
Listing the major developmental projects taken up across the State, the Minister said the liberal funding ensured by the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh has changed the development scenario here , adding that the people of State know it well. He said the proposals submitted by the the State to the Centre are getting approved on priority due to personal efforts of the Congress High Command. He said Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad is still pursuing his mission of Khushal Kashmir, the dream he embellished for the betterment of the State. He said that the huge funds the state has received during the Congress tenure, has no example in the annals of the history.
Mr. Saroori said that the party is trying its best to promote youth’s participation in the affairs of the organization, adding the introduction of Mr. Rahul Gandhi, with dynamic leadership qualities, is a step towards this direction. He said the party is progressing leaps and bounds under the leadership of Ms Sonai Gandhi, adding the Nehru family has eternal affection with the people of the State. He said late leaders like Pt. Jawaherlal Nehru and Mrs. Indra Gandhi always worked for the upliftment and development of the people of the State, adding that the later had visited Kashmir Valley one day earlier to her assassination.
Later the Minister reviewed the pace of development works coming up in the district, besides the widening of Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. He was informed that out of 55 bridges on the national Highway 23 have been completed so far.
MLC, Mohammad Amin Bhat and senior congress leader Surinder Singh Cheni accompanied the Minister and spoke on the occasion.
