| Games shifted as Stadium closed for R-Day | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, January 13: To free the space for annual ritual of Republic Day, the State Sports Council has handed over the control of MA Stadium to the security agencies shifting games to different venues.
As many as six games have already been moved to the twin venues of University of Jammu and Green Field ground, Gandhi Nagar soon after security agencies took over the control of the stadium on December 31.
“Six events have been shifted to venues outside MA Stadium. While athletic and cricket coaching centers have been moved to University of Jammu, coaches of three other events of yoga, kabaddi and women football have been directed to operate their centers from Green Field ground,” District Manager of State Sports Council, Rajan Sharma told SAN.
He added that earlier the MA Stadium used to close around December 15, but this time, the authorities were requested to reduce the period of `seizer’ of sports venue.
Regular activities have also been stopped at Billiards Hall, Weightlifting Hall and Lawn Tennis courts. “While running Billiards and Snooker and Weightlifting at some other venue was impossible, so the games have been stopped till the Republic Day function is over. Since the J&K Police had offered its courts for coaching, we have moved lawn tennis to Police Lines,” he further said.
Meanwhile, the activities at Indoor complex were going on smoothly. “We have an advantage as for as indoor complex is concerned. As the entrance to the complex is shared by Jammu Club, the games at Indoor Complex shall, hopefully, continue till January 22,” informed the District Manager.
