| State Recommendations on Paharies to be challenged | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 13- Objecting over the demand of a sect of ‘Pahari speaking people’ for grant of ST status to them, the senior leaders of Gujjar and Bakerwal community today said that they will oppose any such move with full force aiming to dilute the Tribal status by entering a ‘Non Tribal linguistic entity’ into the ethno tribal amalgam. Addressing media persons here today Ghulam Rasool Asghar general secretary J&K Gujjar and Bakerwal Conference threatened to challenge the state’s recommendations, if any, for grant of ST status to Paharies in the Supreme Court He said as per the Article 342 of the Constitution of India, the Scheduled Tribes status cannot be granted on the basis of a language and added that Pahari speaking people don't deserve this status at all as they are demanding this category on the basis of Pahari language. Asghar said that Paharis are not Tribals nor nomadic. They are ruling class even today and enjoying 20% reservation under RBA, 3% under ALC, 5% under 5% OBC. He said those Pahari speaking people who are raising the demand for grant of Scheduled Tribes status are economically well-off, educationally and socially rich but their so called representatives making them to struggle for an unconstitutional demand of Schedule Tribe status is purely for political exploitation and befooling their own people. Asghar further said that the even the Scheduled Tribes status granted to the Gujjar and Baskarwal community of the State is being swallowed by the non- Gujjars on the basis of the fake ST certificates and most of the share of ST is being taken away by the Ladakhis, Gaddies, Cippies and the Pahari.
