Arrangements to celebrate Diwali at Udhampur were discussed at a meeting of district officers and prominent citizens of the town here yesterday.
The Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Mr. O.P.Kalandria presided over the meeting.
Addl. S.P. Udhampur, Mr. M.Y.Kichloo, Chief Medical Officer, Assistant Commissioner, Revenue. Executive Officer, Municipality, Assistant Director, CA&PD, Assistant Director, Fire Services, Exn, PHE, Tehsildars Territorial and Settlement and Dy.S.P. traffic were present in the meeting.
Threadbare deliberations were held on various arrangements like identification site for putting up crackers stalls, sanitation, uninterrupted power and water supply. Security, traffic regulations etc.
It was decided in the meeting that Mini stadium near Town Hall Udhampur will be the site for putting up of crackers stalls by the concerned dealers after getting proper permission from the office of Deputy Commissioner. It was also decided that there should be total prohibition for selling crackers on retail sale or other fire works by any authorized person before October 19, 2006 or after the Diwali festival.
In order to keep strict vigil on the rates and quality of sweets and other essentials, the Assistant Director, CA&PD was directed to press his team of department to conduct surprise checks on such installations especially from October 29 to 21, 2006.
The prominent citizens also demanded deployment of adequate lady police during Karwa Chouth and Diwali festival at some specific places in town to avoid any untoward incident.
The prominent citizens who attended the meeting included President Hotel Association, Mr. Shanti Swaroop. General Secretary, Hotel Association, Mr. Vikram Salathia, President Halwai Union, Mr. Radha Sham, Divisional Warden, Civil Defence, Udhampur, Mr. Ved Parkash and Social worker, Mr. Sita Ram.
