| Jobs @ JU: Reserved for Favourites | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 13: If you are seeking a job in ISO certified University of Jammu, then think twice before applying because the openings here are ‘exclusively reserved’ for few ‘favourites’. Time and again wild allegations that nepotism and too much preferential treatment to ‘specials’ galore in this premier institution, authorities, however, out rightly reject the accusations claiming that the selection process for getting a job in the varsity is completely transparent. If we give a thorough look on the recent appointments made by the authorities for two posts of Liaison Officers under RBA and ST category, the charge that ‘favouritism’ playing its role is, somewhat, proving out to be true. The manner in which a ‘blue-eyed’ of high ranking official in the Vice Chancellor’s office has been selected for one of the posts has raised eyebrows of some of the other aspirants. One of the candidates, Ayoub Khan, son of Mohammad Sajawal, a scholar of History in Jammu University, who had applied for Liaison Officer’s post after it was advertised in March 2009, told Early Times, “I applied for the post under RBA category and was pretty much sure that I would get the job but to my utter dismay it was not to be.” “I would have remained silent but the person who has been appointed, extending undue benefit to him, has compelled me to highlight the injustice meted out to me,” he added. Ayoub further said that though University authorities claimed that the vacancies filled in a most impartial manner, the choice made for the Liaison Officer under RBA category is brazenly opposite to that. “The person, who has been chosen for the post, is close confidant of Neeraj Sharma, Special Secretary to Vice-Chancellor (VC). Moreover, his RBA certificate is not genuine,” alleged Ayoub. “The appointee’s name is Akhilesh Sharma, son of Jia Lal Sharma of Bakshi Nagar, who before being selected for this post was working as Computer Assistant in VC’s secretariat that too on attachment basis thanks to the blessings of authorities again,” he said adding that actually, he was selected as Computer Assistant for Central Library way back in 2004 but was adjusted in VC office. He joined as Liaison Officer on December 4, 2009. Ayoub alleged that elder brother and wife of Akhilesh are also employees of the University and working as Assistant Programmer and Computer Assistant respectively. He questioned that if the University authorities want to reappoint their employees (insiders) only on the posts advertised, why they seek applications from outsiders? “My opposition to his appointment is not on the grounds that whether he was working as a Computer Assistant earlier or attached in VC’s Secretariat but the point of objection is that the veracity of his RBA certificate which I believe is made fraudulently. I have lodged a written complaint with the Vigilance Commissioner in this regard with copies of the same have been forwarded to Chancellor, Pro Chancellor, Vice Chancellor, Financial Commissioner Revenue Department and Divisional Commissioner Jammu.” said the aggrieved job seeker The partiality on part of the University administration could also be gauged from the fact that the ‘blue-eyed’ of the authorities has again been attached at VC’s Secretariat along with the post though Liaison Officer’s posts are meant for General Zorawar Singh Auditorium. But surprisingly none of the persons appointed on these posts are working in the auditorium. According to sources, it is not first instance that a favourite has been adjusted on a choice posting but previously also Liaison Officers’ posts were distributed among those who either were relatives or acquaintances of some of the leading names of the state. The posts of Liaison Officers, which were advertised earlier in the year 2007, were meant “exclusively” for auditorium. Though four posts were advertised, two of them falling under RBA and ST category were deferred for unknown reasons. After the selection process, two female candidates namely Sita Anand and Rakhi Maini were appointed as Liaison Officers under Open Category but they were attached at Centre for Adult & Continuing Education and Directorate of Distance Education respectively and are still deputed there, sources added It seems that these posts have been created keeping in mind certain people having powerful contacts. “As far as getting a suitable job in the University is concerned, it is slowly but steadily going out of bounds for commoners as the Varsity is fast becoming a hub of those who are high, mighty and possess political connections which ultimately comes handy in getting employment there.” said Ayoub Khan
