| Auspicious Makersankranti and Lohri celebrated | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 14: Jammu and Kashmir Dharmarth Trust in collaboration with Sanatan Dharam Sabha, Jammu, this year celebrated the Holy Makersankranti and Lohri festival with great religious fervour and gaiety. On the eve of the Lohri festival, a memorable gala function was jointly organized at Abhinav theatre, Jammu by Jammu Kashmir Dharmarth Trust and Sanatan Dharam Sabha which was presided over by Industries Minister S.S. Slathia. Revenue Minister, Raman Bhalla was the guest of honour. Among others, Mayor, Jammu Kavinder Gupta, former BJP president Ashok Khajuria and BJP Corporators were also present. President Jammu and Kashmir Dharmarth Trust Th. Divakar Singh, President Sanatan Dharma Sabha Shyam Chooramani and presidents and heads of the other organizations along with Industries Minister, SS Slathia and Revenue Minister Raman Bhalla lit the traditional lamp to mark inauguration of the function. Organizers of the function felicitated the distinguished personalities for their distinguished work in social fields. It was followed by a colourful cultural programme based on the famous Dandia dance, Dogri and Punjabi Bhangra presented by the students of the Sanatan Dharm Sabha Schools of Gandhi Nagar, Jullaka Mohalla and City branches at Abhinav theatre. Speaking on the occasion, president Jammu and Kashmir Dharmarth Trust, Th. Divakar Singh highly praised the composite culture of the State, particularly of the Jammu region. He urged the Ministers elected from the Jammu region to contribute their mite in removing apprehensions from the minds of the people to end the alleged discrimination by executing equal development works and allotment of funds. Prominent Sanskrit scholar Dr. Vishva Murthi threw light on the importance of the Lohri and Makersankranti festivals in the backgrounds of the Dogra culture. A large number of the prominent people including heads of the various social, religious and philanthropies organizations, political leaders and senior civil and police officers were present.
