NC misleading people of state over 370: Manhas
1/14/2010 10:07:31 PM
Early Time Report
Jammu Jan 14
The newly elected BJP State President Shamsher Singh Manhas, reiterating party’s stand on Article 370, said that NC is misleading the people of the state as this provision has widened the gap between the state and the rest of the country and "sooner this Special Provision goes, better it will be for the state as well as the nation".
Castigating the NC leaders’ claims describing the Constitutional Provision as a bridge between the state and the rest of the country, newly elected state president BJP Manhas said the this provision has widened the gap between the state and the rest of the country instead of strengthening the bond. He reminded the NC leaders that like other princely states of the country, the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir too had signed the same "Instrument of Accession" hence, there was no need of granting any Special Status or concession. ‘Provision of Special Status for Jammu and Kashmir in the Indian Constitution was even opposed when it was being framed and Pt. Nehru had termed it as a temporary provision saying that it will get erased with the passing of time but its continuance even after five decades could not be justified secondly it has proved to be more harmful rather than giving any benefits, said Manhas.
The BJP chief also took the NC leaders to task for charging the BJP as anti-Kashmir saying that the BJP has always stood for equal treatment to all the three regions of the state. He said the BJP has never favoured special treatment to one region and discrimination with other region of the state. Holding the NC responsible for discrimination with Jammu and Ladakh, Manhas said, “Infact, it is the National Conference, which has always adopted anti-Jammu and anti-Ladakh attitude and given preferential treatment to Kashmir only in all matters and at all levels.’ He said the NC has ruled the state for most of the period and sought explanation from party leaders to tell the people as to why the Jammu has less number of assembly seats despite the fact that it has more area and more population than Kashmir.
He said the people are the best judges and BJP need no certificate from leaders of parties like NC of being a party which stands for equal treatment to Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh.
