| UPA lowering guards under internal and external pressures: Prof Gupta | | | Early Time Report Jammu Jan 14 The former Union Minister and the leader of the BJP Legislators Party, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta has charged the Congress led UPA government of buckling under internal and external pressures in lowering the guards in Jammu and Kashmir. ‘And this is endangering what has been achieved through great sacrifices of the forces and sufferings of the countrymen, especially the people of this part of India, said Prof Gupta.
Commenting upon the reports that more troops are being withdrawn from sensitive areas of the state and replacement by Police, Prof. Gupta said that it is strange that the infiltration bids along the borders and Line of Control have marked alarming increase in the recent days and there has been a spurt in the activities of the terrorists and fundamentalists coupled with controversial slogans of Autonomy and self-rule as also the ill-conceived recommendations of the so-called Working Group headed by retired Justice Sagheer Ahmed. In his statement, the BJP leader alleged that Congress had never a Kashmir policy and had always been indulging in appeasement of the anti-national elements resulting in more problems and encouragement to secessionists and semi-secessionists. “New Delhi is failing to protect even what was achieved by virtue of hard efforts made in containing the infiltrations and return of peace along the borders, he alleged and said that the situation is worsening now especially after the Congress-National Conference honeymoon is again there in the state and the NC has begun to harp upon the slogans of restoration of pre-1953 status while PDP and others in the valley as also else where have become active to dilute the Indian sovereignty over Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP leader observed that the mysterious submitting of his report to the state Chief Minister instead of the Prime Minister by the Chairman of the 5th Working Group after his silence of over two years in wake of the "Quiet Diplomacy" by the New Delhi leadership with secessionists and semi-secessionists was a matter of serious concern. ‘While the situation is getting volatile now in lowering of the guards despite the confessions by the Defence Minister and others in authority that the infrastructure of cross border terror still existed and there are increased infiltration bids. In the situation guards are being lowered baffling the observers of the state scene, Prof Gupta stated and impressed upon the nationalists in and outside the state to question the men in authority about their confusing postures and thus, create an awareness amongst the masses to check any more problems.
