| DC instructs for checking over loading, traffic congestion | | | UDHAMPUR, OCTOBER 08
To check menace of over loading and traffic congestion at various busy places in Udhampur, the Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Mr. O.P.Kalandria convened a joint meeting of officers and representatives of various transport unions here yesterday.
Additional S.P. Udhampur, Assistant Commissioner, Revenue, Dy. S.P. traffic, president Metadoor Union, Mr. Darshan Singh, Vice President, Mr. Wali Mohd Chandel, Manager Banihal Group buses ,Mr. Ram Dev Singh, President, Video Coach Union, and S. Randhir Singh were also present in the meeting.
To ease the traffic congestion at Salathia Chowk due to over crowding of Matadors in particular and other vehicles in general, it was decided in the meeting that only six matadors be allowed to stand at a time in the chowk. For the purpose, Deputy Commissioner instructed the officers of traffic police to deploy adequate number of cops to regulate the traffic smoothly. The traffic department was also directed not to allow trucks to enter the city beyond the prescribed hours.
Keeping in view the hardships being faced by the student community in getting transportation facility during morning and after noon hours, the representatives of matadors and bus unions were asked to deploy more vehicles during peak hours to facilitate the students.
The Deputy Commissioner also called upon the representatives of bus and matador unions to convene a meeting with drivers of these vehicles lying on different routes to refrain from over loading for the convenience of the passengers and to avoid any untoward incident.
