SKEWPY spells hope for youths: Shabir

JAMMU, JANUARY 14 - Minister of State for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Labour and Employment, Mr. Shabir Ahmed Khan, has reiterated Government’s commitment to provide employment opportunities to all skilled and unskilled unemployed youth, adding that ‘Sher-i-Kashmir Employment and Welfare Programme for Youth’ (SKEWPY) has been introduced in the State to cope up with the unemployment problem.

Interacting with deputationists from Home Shalibug, Kashmir and Gordhanbala, Rajouri here today, the Minister said that the Government is endeavoring a lot in absorbing the professionally trained youth in Government and Private sectors besides ensuring employment to other educated youth.

Referring to the significant benefits of this innovative policy, the Minister said the unemployed youth of the State can avail the advantage of subsidies, marginal money and low interest rate on loan for setting up of their income generating units. He said desirous educated youth can get Rs.3 lakh to Rs.7.50 lakh financial assistance from the banks besides other incentives from the Government under the policy.

Regarding supply and stock position of foodgrains at various sale outlets of CA&PD, the Minister said that ensuring adequate supply of foodgrains in all areas is the priority of the Government. He said the functioning of CA&PD is being streamlined and it has been made mandatory for every rationee to get his ration besides K.oil and LPG before 25th of every month. He said instructions have been issued to the concerned authorities to ensure timely ration supply to the people and any laxity on part of any officer or official would be dealt with strictly.

The Minister called upon the people to personally monitor the distribution of foodgrains at their respective sale outlets to avoid profiteering and hoarding.

The Minister assured the deputationists that their genuine demands would be taken up at appropriate level.

Responding to the demand of inadequate supply of foodgrains in Shalibug constituency, the minister issued on the spot instructions to the concerned authorities to look into the matter for its immediate redressal.
