GCET moves into second round of Chess
Annual Inter-College Competitions of JU

JAMMU, January 14: Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET) entered into the next round of ongoing Inter-college men’s Chess Tournament outplaying Government Gandhi Memorial Science College (Evening) 4-0 at Gymnasium Hall of the University of Jammu, here today.
Sandeep Sharma, Sanjeev Singh Seri, Mohd Aquib and Vikas Sharma won their respective matches to guide their college to an impressive win.
The Results: Sandeep Sharma bt Nitin Singh Chib, Sanjeev Singh Seri bt Vivian; Mohd Aquib bt Zahir Abbas; Vikas Sharma bt Gourav Kapahi.
Meanwhile, other three scheduled matches could not take place forcing the organizers to award walkovers to the team present at the venue.
While Degree College Udhampur got walkover KC Law College, Degree College Kathua awarded walkover Degree College Rajouri. Similarly, GGM Science College got walkover when Degree College Bhaderwah failed to report.
GCW Parade wins, PG Deptts fail to report
Government College for Women (GCW) Parade registered a facile 4-0 win over GGM Science College to move into the quarterfinals of the ongoing inter-college women’s chess competitions.
Mehak, Rashmi Choudhary, Geetika Slathia and Rekha Rani guided Parade College to an easy victory clinching their respective matches this morning.
The Results: Mehak bt Shivani Jamwal; Rashmi Choudhary bt Mamta Verma; Geetika Slathia bt Minakshi Sharma; Rekha Rani bt Sakshi.
Meanwhile, the failure of hosts Post Graduate Departments of University of Jammu helped SPMR College of Commerce reach the next round getting a walkover.
The GCW Gandhi Nagar and Women College Udhampur also got walkovers to qualify for the quarter-finals.
Today’s matches were officiated by Sushil Sawhney and S P Sharma.
Meanwhile, according to the organizers, Director Physical Education and Sports, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau, the competitions scheduled for tomorrow have been postponed for January 16 at same time.
