| Explore talent of the youth | | | Khushwant. S. Ranial Mankind has progressed a lot over the years and centuries together. In the pursuit of gaining excellence in education serious efforts have been made through varied amount of experimentation to improve the curriculum structure, methodology of teaching, use of teaching aids, application of skills, holding re-orientation courses to improve the teaching skills, devising new modes of marking to eliminate stress and strain pressure from the minds of the children etc. But despite doing all that, our educational set up has failed to lessen the burden fallen upon the tender shoulders and purified minds of the soft, upcoming generation. The nearer the examination period they approach the more they grow tense and become upset falling either to anxiety, fear, undue burden, mounting pressure to excel by doing well in examination or sometimes an introvert, feeble, weak-minded hearts collapses to such a degree that losses arisen are often unbearable, irreparable and irrevocable. Under such compelling circumstances, parents teachers starts holding one another responsible for such an emanated mess. The hapless taught/ educand gets grind and grounded in a mill of high expect at loss than a grain of wheat/rice which is also grinded in the treadmill. Today, we are living in the age of materialism where value based education has been pushed to the wall. At the cost of the mental stability, peace, happiness, health of a growing child, a student is pumped to secure more and more marks regardless of this fact that the pressured ones may have or may not have the enough caliber to withstand the load exerted from outside by the varying centripetal forces like family, teachers, neighbourer etc. As a result of this exerted amount of heavy pressure, the poor student is left with no choice except to go for memorization. The rote-memory concept bereft of quality assimilative educational knowledge doesnot leave a permanent imprints on the crystal clear mind of the child for ever. It becomes a temporary and transient phase. The receiver end shed off the burden in the examination and further goes to receiving end for ever. Degree and diplomas are secured with scant knowledge at hand and again when they come across at state level/ national level combined competitive examinations, they find hard to secure better position which not only adds to their frustrations but adds to their pall of gloom adding to their woes etc. Thus, such and forbearance level to the lowest ebb to such an extent that often one come across the reportings of newspaper and media about the committed suicidal cases. These sorts of losses deprive the society of true human services, fragnance of a budding flower and shade of a plant not able to become a tree. As usual, we spiritually cast it as a sweet will of the god and thus the time rolls on without probing the root cause behind such a loss of precious human life. It would be an exaggeration on my part to coax our revered educational thinkers, philosophers who have been admirably involved in lending valuable contributions in the field of education. Theoretically everything seems in order with minor changes required to meet the challenging needs of the hour with changing times. But what is found wanting is the laxity to put in place the theoretical application into a practical shape. Our educational philosphers like Locke, Rousseau, Dewey, Ramanarjan, Aristotle, Pluto, Tagore, Spencer etc. have mentioned in their philosophies of life that talent of the young mind should be explored and nurtured accordingly. They dubbed and discouraged spoon-feedings. They shown us the path to help and guide the child to lead every learning individual a purposeful life based on inculcated knowledge and broadened vision and sharp intellectual experience acquired over the period of the time. In the Indian context of an educational set up, we must openly and brazenly accept it that we have fall short of the type of expectations. We are producing cream of an educated class whose potential has not been explored. Real talent fails to see the ray of sun light. There is no scale, system, via media at the primary or middle or even at the secondary level stage to find out or extract what the child likes or possesses an ingrained interest. His/her passion is often found subjugated. Thoughts never find hold to comeout. They remain suppressed. The urgent need of the hour to meet the burgeoning scale of educated unemployment is to explore talent of the youth right from the day, one individual as an educand joins the ulma mater so that his/her intelligence level and creativity scale be honoured and right direction be provided to excel in the field of arts, culture, sports, music, drama, paintings, writings, scientific, management, commerce, multimedia technology in accordance to the ingrained individual capacities, talent, bent of mind, taste, personal will power and physical strength and above all mental make up. So far such type of education which may cater to attend the special posses abilities of the children has not been found anywhere in our state at least. To some extent, in urbanities areas and that too in government recognized private institutions, endeavours have been as well as curriculum of Kendriya Vidalayas, Navovidalyas schools have been observed where maximum emphasis on all round personality development is found focused and weekly, fortnightly programmes are chartered and scheduled. Rest in rural areas, the condition are pitable and lamentable. The government all claims falls short of standing due to adequate short of staffing, poor quality infrastructure, shattered buildings, playground, pancity of funds to have libraries and laboratories. No doubt, every successive regime especially in our state has done her best by opening new vistas of education at an inaccessible and far flung areas, yet the question of quality teaching-learning process is a distant dream. We are acceptably far off the targets and desired norms. It is a non-hidden issue and bitter truth to swallow and digest. However, till things improve in such grey areas, an all out effort must be put in the cities and town as well as those come within municipal regions by appointing physchologists and other skilled experts in schools to ascertain the bent of mind, talent, potential of the children so that right from the very beginning, a child skill could be avoided or minimized and real gems to serve state and society under different shades be produced.
