| | | Bhalla assures powers to Mumberdars , chowkidars Earlyu Times Report JAMMU, JANUARY 15– A delegation of the Numberdars and Chowkidars today called on the Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Mr. Raman Bhalla and presented their charter of demands. President, J&K Numberdars Association, Mr. Bashir Ahmed Teeli apprised the Minister about the demands of the Numberdars which include respectable grade equivalent to Government employees, issuance of passes for entry into Government offices, office accommodation at district and tehsil levels and representation in the Legislative Council etc.
Mr. Bhalla assured sympathetic consideration. Interacting with the Numebrdars and Chowkidars, Mr. Bhalla said that the Government was committed to empower the Numberdars and Chowkidars and ensure their participation in the implementation of the policies and programmes of the Government at gross roots level. He said that all the Numberdars and Chowkidars would be provided proper uniform and other required facilities. He said that, being the important constituent of the democratic setup, the Numberdars and Chowkidars act as bridge between the administration and the people. He said that Government has already enhanced monthly honorarium of Numberdars from Rs.81 to Rs.501 from April 1, 2007 and Chowkidars from Rs.225 to Rs.500 per month.
Mr. Bhalla asked he Numberdars and Chowkidars to utilize their services for overall betterment of the State.
