| O&G conservation fortnight | | Village with 400 families to have LPG outlets: Akhoon | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, JANUARY 15 – Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Mr. Qamar Ali Akhoon today called for launching an awareness campaign on oil & gas conservation and educating consumers on economic use of scarce energy.
The Minister was addressing the inaugural function of the Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight-2010, organized by the State Level Coordinator, Petroleum, Conservation Research Association (PCRA), here today. The fortnight is being celebrated from January 15 to 31 through out the country.
Mr. Akhoon said that the main idea behind the celebration of this fortnight is to create awareness in the various fields dependent on oil and gas, including transport, industries, agriculture and house hold sectors and stressed for achieving the goal by launching awareness programmes at large scale in these sectors, as well as rural areas by involving youth.
The Minister appreciated the role of PCRA for preparing pamphlets based on their research for saving various products of oil and gas. He said steps taken by the Association are highly commendable, as such efforts will help save the precious wealth of the country. He asked the oil companies to propagate the message of oil conservation through their well established network of dealers, distributors and launch an awareness regarding importance of oil conservation in the interest of national economy.
While appreciating the Union Government for launching Rajiv Gandhi Grameen LPG Vitrak (RGGLV), Mr. Akhoon asked the oil companies to take early steps in implementing the scheme in all the regions of the State. He said that the scheme, introduced by centre, with the concept to make LPG available in the rural areas in a cluster of villages having about 4000 families. The scheme envisages setting up of group/cluster of villages having an average monthly sale of 600 cylinders (refill sales). The main feature of the scheme is that a small storage godown, having capacity of 300 cylinders storage will be required for stocking for distribution purposes. He stressed for educating masses, especially educated un-employed youth so that they can avail benefit of the scheme.
Director CA&PD, Jammu, Mr. Hemant Kumar, State Level Coordinator, Mr. Vikas Behal and other experts threw light on conservation of petroleum products.
The function was attended by all the State Oil PSUs, dealers, distributors, transporters and representatives of various organizations.
