| Slathia offers ‘golden handshake’ to employees of sick units of JKI | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 15: Instead of adopting dillydallying on loss making enterprises the Minister for Industries and Commerce Surjeet Singh Slathia has come clean on the fate of sick units –employees may walk out with golden handshake or voluntary retirement. At a Board meeting of Jammu and Kashmir Industries chaired by its chairman of and Industries Minister Surjeet Singh Slathia here this evening, it was decided to offer Golden Handshake (GHS) and Voluntarily Retirement Service (VRS) to the staff and workers of closed and non-functional units of the company. Minister of State for Industries and Commerce, Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma was present on the occasion. Meanwhile, the Board approved enhancement of authorized share capital of the company from Rs.20 crore to Rs.30 crore besides conveying its nod to the accounts for the year 2002-2003. Speaking on the occasion, Slathia asked the Principal Secretary Industries and Commerce and Commissioner Secretary Finance to take initiative for facilitating release of outstanding against various departments which run over crores of rupees at the earliest. Deliberating on the issue of disposal of land of Sole Leather Plant, Muthi, the Minister ordered for constitution of a three Member Committee, headed by Minister of State for Industries and Commerce, Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma with Additional Secretary, Industries and Commerce and Managing Director J&K Industries as Members. The Committee will visit the area to assess present status of the disputed portion of land and will submit its report, suggesting action to be taken in this regard at the level of Board. The other issues, discussed in the meeting, include disposal of trees in Joinery Mills Pampore and disposal of plant and machinery, store items and trees in R&T Factories, Rajouri and Sunderbani, introduction of GHS Schemes, construction of showroom, block gate and road in government silk weaving factory, Rajbagh and grant of exemption from implementation of ESI Act. The Commissioner Secretary Finance emphasized that five potentially viable units be operated independently and a special purpose vehicle for management of these units be registered under the applicable provision of law. He suggested that staff workers of the non-functional units be dealt in accordance with the provision of Industrial Dispute Act and the Factories Act. Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Mr. Anil Goswami, Commissioner Secretary, Planning and Development, Mr. Sudanshu Pandey, Managing Director J&K Industries, Mr. S.A. Tak and other senior officers of Industries and Commerce, State Forest Corporation and other departments were also present on the occasion.
