Early Times Report

JAMMU, Jan 15: Amina -- a Muslim girl -- who had converted to Hinduism and whose husband Rajneesh Sharma was allegedly tortured to death by police in a Srinagar police station over two months back, fled her in-laws' house at New Plots here under mysterious
circumstances early this morning.
When she left home at about 3 am, she was bare-footed and did not wear any woolen garment, according to in-laws. After she married Rajneesh over four months or so back, she changed her name from Amina to Anchal Sharma. More than a month after their marriage, a Srinagar police party had arrested Rajneesh from their New Plots-residence and taken him to Srinagar.
Few days after his arrest, he was found hanging in the lock-up under mysterious circumstances. Anchal and her-inlaws alleged that police had tortured him to death for marrying a girl from another religion.
Anchal, who led several processions in the city over the alleged custodial death of her husband, had named her father and brother as Rajneesh's alleged killers.
When police investigation in the case failed to make any headway, a CBI probe was demanded by Anchal, her in-laws and several social, political and women organisations here.
Last night, she as usual slept with her mother-in-law and sister-in-law on the same bed. The family members said she got up two-three times at night and went to toilet where she was heard speaking to someone on her cell phone.
When the family tried to probe her mind to know about the cause of her uneasiness, she just parried their queries. The family members said she again got up at about 3 am and went towards the main gate. Her sister-in-law, who had developed suspicion about her, also got up and went after her, but by that time she had melted into the street outside under mysterious circumstances.
They said they immediately brought the matter to the notice of a cop, who was deployed on guard duty inside the house after Rajneesh's death. When Anchal left the house, the cop was sleeping in the verandah, they added.
They said the cop searched for her in the street and on the main New Plots-Janipura road, but could not find any trace of her.
The family then lodged a report in this regard with the Sarwal police post.
Though all police checking points on the Jammu-Srinagar and Jammu-Kathua roads were alerted, police had not been able to find any clue to her whereabouts till late tonight.
