| Five killed, 50 injured in Bhaderwah accident | | ASI among three traffic cops suspended for dereliction of duty | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 15: In a tragic road accident, second in less than a week at Pranu in Bhaderwah, five persons were killed and 50 others wounded, 13 of them critically, when an overloaded minibus plunged into Neeru nullah this morning. The injured included women and children. The ill-fated minibus (JK06/0793) was on its way from Bhaderwah to Doda city. Police sources said the overloaded minibus was crammed with commuters and carried people thrice its capacity. It left the Bhaderwah minibus stand at about 9 am. However, when it reached Pranu at about 10.10 am, the driver lost control over its steering wheel as a result of which it skidded off the road and fell into Neeru nullah. Sources said police and local people started the rescue operation and evacuated the injured, who had sustained multiple injuries, in police and civil vehicles to the Doda district hospital where three of them were pronounced brought dead by the doctors attending on them. They were identified as Hari Lal (50), Tahir Hussain (25) and Nazir Ahmad (46). They hailed from Bhaderwah. Following deterioration in their condition, 13 of the injured were airlifted to the GMC Hospital here for advanced treatment. They were identified as Mushtaq Ahmad, Shravan Kumar, Maya Ram, Parshotam Lal, Gulzar Ahmed, Radha Krishan, Sardari Lal, Ghulam Mohammad, Shiv Lal, Mohammad Rafiq, Rattan Lal, Amresh Kotwal and Liqat Ali. Mushtaq Ahmad and Shravan Kumar succumbed to their injuries in the GMC Hospital. Soon after the mishap, SSP traffic police (National Highway), Alok Kumar placed under suspension traffic police ASI Manjeet Singh, Selection Grade cop Nissar Ahmad and cop Mohammad Bashir, holding them guilty of a serious dereliction of duty. They were posted in Doda and given the job of regulating traffic on the Bhaderwah-Pranu road. He said an inquiry had been initiated against them. The SSP said the same minibus was fined by traffic police in Doda and Bhaderwah on January 8 and 9 for overloading and overspeeding. This was the second minibus accident at Pranu in less than a week. On January 9, two people were killed and 14 injured when the minibus carrying them had plunged into Neeru nullah.
