CGGPA formed to secure people’s rights to good governance: Khajuria

Jammu, Jan 16- With an initiative to secure the people’s inalienable right to good governance, social activists announced the formation of an NGO styled as Centre for Good Governance and Public Accountability (CGGPA). The Centre founded by social activists, technocrats, academics and retired public servants will have SIH Kami, deputy director, Dr Alka Sharma, secretary, Mahesh Gupta, finance secretary and K K Langer secretary public relations.

Announcing this at a press conference here today, former DGP J&K Police and director of the NGO M M Khajuria said that NGO will promote and safeguarding peoples’ rights performing the watch dog role.

He said that the Centre will act as a bridge between the citizens and various constitutional and administrative authorities through constant liaison, exchange of information and data with a view to secure quick, just and fair resolution of the problems faced by the citizens.

The Centre, Khajuria claimed, had broken fresh ground by bringing within the purview of its concerns the level of deliverance on the promises enshrined in the party manifestoes and individual commitments made during electioneering by the elected representatives from the parliament down to the Panchayats according to a mutually agreed schedule. Asserting that the civil society was a vital stake holder in the governance of the state, he warned that unless the civil society intervened consistently and effectively, the crime Mafia, their nexus with the institutions and individuals and of governance and other vested interests would succeed in impacting the government policies and programmers to the detriment of the pubic good.

Welcoming the recent statement of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah regarding the need for participation in the governance, he said that in a backward states society, it was imperative for the government to take concrete steps to encourage civil society participation in the process. The Centre will strive to create a synergy between the peoples urge for efficient, transparent responsive and responsible governance, he added.
