| CM interacts with Paharis | | | Early Times Report Jammu , Jan 16 Chief Minister Omar Abdullah interacted with Governing body of Jammu & Kashmir Pahari Cultural and Welfare Forum at the residence of a senior party leader who had hosted dinner for the Chief Minister. Omar after listening to the demand of the Paharies , assured all help to the governing body to bring scheduled tribe status to its logical conclusion without compromising the reservation status of other communities..
Pahari leaders stressed upon the CM that the Pahari community have been suffering from deprivation in all spheres of life and facing the hardships because of locational disadvantage and their demand for the grant of ST status is justified. They also assured chief minister that their community is for the full protection of the reservation quota granted to different communities of the state.
Members of J&K Pahari Cultural and Welfare have a 2 hour long interaction with him in which they discussed various other issues of the Pahari community. Pahari leaders said that some castes of Gujjars like Rana, Bhatti, Chouhan Badana Kohli are falling in upper class but they are still enjoying ST status. They said that on the other hand Pahries are more nomadic than Gujjars but due to locational disadvantage, this community is most affected. They however suggested the Chief Minister not to repeal ST status from Gujjars. They said “We are not against Gujjars and want their existing qouta to continue but at the same time Paharies should also be included in the tribe list ”, . |
