| MIER College organizes extension lecture | | | Early Times Report

As regular feature of the college activities, an extension lecture was held on the topic “Role of Biotechnology in Saving Environment’’ by the Environment Unit of MIER College of Education. Prof. Manoj Kumar Dhar, Director, School of Biotechnology, University of Jammu was the resource person on this occasion. Prof. Dhar delivered an interesting, innovative, meaningful and thought provoking lecture on the topic. Dr. Adit Gupta Joint Director MIER, Dr Surinder Kaur administrator of the college, Dr. B.L Raina and Dr D.K Kapoor were among the dignitaries, who graced this occasion with their presence. This lecture was attended by the staff and students of B. Ed, B. Ed. Special Education (MR) and PGDCA.
In the welcome address, Dr. Adit Gupta introduced Prof. Manoj Dhar as an eminent scientist and researcher, who has many achievements to his credit. He has received many awards for his research in the field of genetics and bio technology.
Prof. Manoj Dhar in his address laid stress on environmental awareness and explained further that it provides power and understanding to identify human, material, space and time resources in the environment. He, in addition, emphasized that such programmes will help to recognize various methods of making effective use of environmental resources for social, economic, cultural survival, growth and development. He further added that the need of the hour is to make judicious use of available resources and environment friendly technology. While explicating the role of Biotechnology, he expounded that it helps in controlling environmental pollution. Besides, it aids in purification of water, treatment of waste particularly the hazardous waste and in the control of air pollution. Biotechnology has done wonders in the field of agriculture by producing bio-pesticides and bio-fertilizers. It is also producing bio-energy sources like bio-fuels. By use of these bio-products, we can minimize environmental degradation to a great extent.
