Protest is the legitimate form of dissent: Tarigami

Centre of Indian Trade Unions, J&K, held a massive procession in favour of the demands and unity of the working class on eve of its two days third state conference from 16th to 17th January, 2010.

The procession was led by its working President Javaid Zargar and General Secretary OmPrakash besides other leaders.

While addressing the rally Tarigami, its President and State Secretary CPI(M) said that the escalating prices of the ration items and essential commodities have hit the budget of the general masses particularly working class people, peasantry and low income strata of the society.

While cautioning the Govt.to desist from using force against legitimate protests of working people as was witnessed against the PDD daily wagers recently. Urging upon the govt. to acknowledge the right to protest instead of resorting to brutal suppression he said that protest is the legitimate form of dissent which need to be recognized by it. Commenting on completion of one year of the present dispensation, Tarigami said that promises made to the people are yet to be translated into action.

Stressing the need for universalization of Public Distribution System, Tarigami expressed dismay over cutting down of ration quota of the states.

Tarigami expressed his concern over the non-implementation of labour laws in the state. He also reiterated the demand for early payment of compensation by Govt.of India in lieu of the huge losses being incurred on account of Indus-Water Treaty between India and Pakistan. ‘This treaty is discriminatory and detrimental to the interests of the state, he added.

Sham Prasad Kesar, Regional Secretary CPI(M), Jammu stressed the need for extension of NAREGA to the urban areas to provide work/job to the urban unemployed youth.

Javaid Zargar, Working President CITU, J&K expressed deep concern over the plight of the construction workers engaged in various developmental projects and urged upon the Government to redress their genuine demands for wage enhancements, implementation of labour laws and providing of safety measures etc. Omprakash, General Secretary, CITU, J&K said that enhancement of wages of coal mine workers, safety measures for their working conditions, release of state share in case of Anganwadi workers/helpers implementation of wages benefits to others and social security for the workers of unorganized sector.

Nirdosh Uppal, Joint Secretary, CITU, J&K, explained the plight of the working force of industrial sector and urged the workers to fight unitedly for their just and genuine demands.
