| Forest along LoC catches fire | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 16: About seven km stretch of forest area along Line of Control (LoC) today caught fire after heavy gunfire from Pakistan side on army posts in Mendhar sector of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir, sources here said. The pine trees and other vegetation in Mankote forest area of Mendhar tehsil caught fire after heavy firing on Army posts along the LoC, sources said. ''The area between Gohi, Ghoda Post and Chhaja Maan post of the army was targeted from across the LoC between 2315 hrs to 0015 hrs. About 12 to 14 big shots were also heard after which the vegetation in the entire area caught fire,'' sources said. Thick clouds of smoke were seen billowing from about seven km forest stretch along the LoC, the sources said. It was yet to be confirmed if there was any damage to army posts in the gunfire and the subsequent forest fire. The army authorities were tightlipped on the incident. |
