| Jammu temperatures still below normal | | | Early Times Report Srinagar Jan 16: Jammu reeled under intense cold with night temperature in the region slipping by a few notches, even as mercury improved in Kashmir valley. Banihal recorded a low of minus 1.3 degrees Celsius making it the coldest place in Jammu region today. Bhaderwah recorded a night temperature of minimum 1.7 deg C, MeT officials said. Jammu, the winter capital of the state, recorded a low of 4.2 degree Celsius today, nearly four degrees below normal. Katra recorded 8.0 deg C followed by Batote at 5.6 deg C. Meanwhile, temperature improved in Srinagar with the city recording minus 3.2 degree Celsius, one degree above normal, as against yesterday's temperature of minus 3.6 deg C. Pahalgam hill resort in south Kashmir, where the night temperature had slipped to minus 5.3 deg C yesterday, today recorded minus 4.8 deg C followed by Qazigund (minus 3.6 deg C), Kupwara (minus 2.8 deg C) and Kokernag (minus 1.2 deg C). However, in frontier region of Ladakh, there was no let up in the cold wave as Leh reeled under minus 19.0 deg C and Kargil minus 14.0 deg C. |
