Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 16: In what could be seen as a modern trend of policing, the Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to rope in all men and women in Khaaki, posted in any of the wing to help their area police in curbing crime and other anti-social activities.
Well placed sources in government revealed to Early Times that after long deliberations with top police brass, the Home department has directed the Police Head Quarter (PHQ) to work out of modalities as how the services of each and every police personnel including all ranks can be availed to give a facelift to the image of Jammu and Kashmir police.
“The said thought,” sources disclosed, “came following suggestive inputs of militant attack and increasing crime rate in different parts of the state.”
As per the new measure, it is learnt, that even if a cop serving in any of the wings like CID, Vigilance, Traffic, Security etc, he or she will be asked to share information pertaining to any suspicious movement, crime or anti-social activities like eve teasing and drug peddling with their respective police jurisdiction, so that timely and effective action could be initiated against the goons. It has been generally observed that as information is received late so police reach late on the spot, which helps the criminals to escape and hide.
“The Police Head Quarter (PHQ) through separate Zonal Police Head Quarters (ZPHQs), ranges and respective District Police Head Quarters has directed to collect information including the residential address and facilities like land line telephone and mobile phone connections,” disclosed police sources. Following directions, all the district police heads have further directed the concerned Station House Officers (SHOs) and in-charge Police Posts (PPs) to collect the required information about the Cops residing in their respective jurisdictions.
Sources further revealed that “special police teams have been constituted for to complete the task at an earliest so that the compiled information could be forwarded to the police higher ups for necessary decision.”
“The police brass has decided to provide land line phone facilities at the residences of the police personnel who don’t have the said facility. They will be given the phone numbers of the police stations and police posts of their respective jurisdiction and also the mobile phone numbers of the in-charge to pass on any information of their respective locality,” informed sources.
In near future, it would not be just the job of executive wing to maintain surveillance but the services of police personnel serving in other wings will also be incorporated for effective policing.
