Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 17: Foiling an infiltration bid on the International Border (IB), a BSF ambush party shot dead a Pakistani intruder near the Chhawni border outpost in the forward Jabowal area of Arnia early this morning.
An ambush party of 110 Bn of BSF sighted two intruders in the vicinity of Chhawni outpost when they mounted the earthen bund ahead of fencing towards Pak side at about 2.40 am.
The intruders were sighted with the help of night vision devices (NVDs), official sources said. Sources said soon after they mounted the bund, the ambush party fired, killing one of them on the spot while the other managed to flee back unhurt.
As it was foggy, the troops took the body in their custody late in the morning when the weather became clear. IG, DIG and other senior BSF officers, besides police officers, visited the spot when they came to know about the troops' success.
Sources said the killing of the intruder was followed by three flag meetings on the IB.
In the flag meeting held ahead of Chhawni, the Pak Rangers from their Harnawali post had come.
Sources said the Rangers, as usual, outrightly rejected the BSF claim that the intruder had come from the Pak side. They even refused to look at the body for its identification, the sources added.
Sources said BSF lodged a strong protest over the repeated infiltration attempts along the IB. After the meeting was over, the Rangers returned, claiming that they were not knowing about any such incident.
Two more flag meetings were held on the IB, the sources added. Sources said after the Rangers refused to accept the body, BSF handed it over to the Arnia police.
Cops later evacuated the body to the GMC Hospital mortuary where it would be kept for 72 hours before its burial at the Gujjar Nagar graveyard, the sources added.
Sources said the killed intruder looked like a guide of militants, who must have come to recce the area. He wore a trouser, white shirt and a sweater.
