Ravindra Misra enlightens, Sarit Das enthralls at SaMaPa Aalap

The 11th Day of the ongoing 4th Annual ‘SaMaPa Aalap Festival’ featured Talk and Paper Reading by the eminent music critic Ravindra Misra and Solo Tabla recital by Sarit Das.
The 1st session was held at Govt. College for Women, Gandhi Nagar and later the 2nd session was held at KL Saigal Hall. Both the programmes, well attended by numerous music lovers and music students, were specially designed to provide theoretical as well as practical understanding to the young music students. ‘SaMaPa Aalap Festival 2010' is being presented by SaMaPa (Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts) in collaboration with ‘Jammu and Kashmir Tourism’ & ‘J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages’.
Ravindra Misra, who was recently awarded the prestigious ‘SaMaPa Acharya Abhinavgupt Samman’ for his lifetime contribution to the field of music as a music critic, presented his Talk titled ‘Globalization and Indian music’. He has contributed more than 5000 articles, interviews and reviews both in English and Hindi National publications. He focused his Talk on the advantages of Globalization and presence of Indian music in this era, and how it builds a cultural bond. He also mentioned that the monopoly of Western music does not exist anymore in the international world music category and how the Indian music now echoes in the international market. He said that Indian classical music has now attained its own place and audience.
Earlier Abhay Rustum Sopori, the eminent Santoor Maestro and Music Composer, in his address introduced the programme and the performers and also enlightened the students about the topic ‘Globalization’. He said, in the ancient times when the ruler would conquer a new land, he would make major initiatives to introduce his culture in the conquered area and that can be termed as the ‘Cross Cultural Influence’. He said that the globalization has increased the financial stability of musicians as the music is now appreciated world over as it has attained a universal popularity.
Sarit Das, a well known Tabla maestro of Farukkabad Gharana, presented Solo Tabla recital. He was accompanied on Harmonium by Ustad Sajjad Ahmed from Delhi and Poushali Dutta on Tanpura.
The next concert will feature Santoor recital by Abhay Rustum Sopori at K.C. Public School on January 19. Few special recitals are also being held at Border areas like Rangpur Maulania (RS Pura) on January 22 at 12:00 Noon and Rajouri on January 23 at 11:30 am.
