| Basu’s death condoled | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 18 Rich tributes were paid today to former Chief Minister and stalwart of Marxist movement in the country Jyoti Basu, who expired yesterday at Kolkata in a largely attended condolence meeting at Jammu organized by J&K State Committee, CPI(M). The meeting was presided over by MY Tarigami, State Secretary CPI(M). Prominent among who attended the meeting included SS Slathia Minister for Industries and Commerce, senior Congress leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Mangat Ram Sharma, Sheikh Abdul Rehman President Samajwadi Party, senior leaders of National Conference and MLC Ajay Sadhotra and Political Advisor to Chief Minister MLC Devinder Rana, former Minister Jugal Kishore, President People’s Democratic Front and former Minister Hakim Mohammad Yasin, senior PDP leader and former minister Peer Mohammad Hussain, Bharat Bhushan MLA, CPI leaders AR Takroo and Kamal Dev, CPI(M) leader Sham Prasad Kesar, eminent human rights activist Balraj Puri paid their rich tributes to the departed leader. All the speakers described the departed leader a symbol of democratic and secular values, who played a prominent role in bringing together the democratic forces for strengthening the federal structure and re-shaping centre-state relationship. Being committed to ideology of scientific socialism, he made rich contribution in strengthening the plural and secular ethos by mobilizing larger sections of political opinion of the country. His life long struggle for advancement of the cause of toiling people will be remembered for long time to come, the leaders said.
