| `Borders cannot be redrawn’ | | NC to oppose division of JK-Sagar | |
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 18: The minister of law and parliamentary affairs, Ali Muhammad Sagar Monday said borders cannot be redrawn and restoration of autonomy would not violate the sanctity of country’s constitution. He was addressing the youth wing of National Conference at the party headquarters here.
National Conference will never allow division of the state, he said. “The people who talk of division cannot be the friends of the state”, he added. “The people who want union territory status for a portion of the state are basically people with sick minds”, he said.
Terming restoration of autonomy as a practicable solution of the Jammu Kashmir problem within the purview of constitution, Sagar said Justice (RTD) Sageer’s recommendations had scared many. “The government of India must immediately implement Sageer’s recommendations for long lasting peace in the state”, he urged.
“The people who oppose autonomy must know that this is the only solution possible. If they have an alternative, let them present it”, Sagar challenged.
Sagar said National Conference had always supported and advocated dialogue. “It is because of untiring efforts of my organization that the people who matter have expressed willingness to talk”, he claimed.
Suggesting Naga type talks with militants, Sagar said,” If the government of India has no problem in talking to Naga militants, why should they shy away from gun yielding youth from the state.”
Sagar said the coalition government led by Omar Abdullah besides ensuring equitable development of all the regions of the state was trying its best to involve more and more people in the dialogue process. “We are concerned about peace. We do not want to turn the state into a huge graveyard”, he said.
