| Pak violates ceasefire to facilitate infiltration | | | JAMMU, Jan 18: Upset and noticeably driven to despair by its failure to infiltrate militants and spies into the Indian territory on the eve of Republic Day, Pakistan fired mortars and rockets and resorted to small arms fire in Krishna Ghati sector of Mendhar in Poonch this evening. This was the second incident of ceasefire violation by Pakistan in KG sector in the past two days. Defence PRO, Lt Col Biplab Nath said an army patrol noticed a group of militants approaching fencing in the close vicinity of Kranti post in KG sector at about 4 pm. When the troops fired at them, they fled back to PoK without retaliating, he added. There was no firing from the Pak side till 6.30 pm. But this lull was followed by a heavy fire that came from the Pak Kadu Post. The Pak army also fired several rockets and mortars. Indian army returned the fire. The exchange of fire between the two sides continued for more than two hours. Official sources said there was no loss on the Indian side in the Pak firing and the fencing was also intact. However, loss, if any, on the Pak side was not immediately known, the sources added. Sources said the Pak firing was aimed at providing cover to infiltrators. A round-the-clock vigil was, however, being maintained on the borders to foil any infiltration bid by the Pak-based militants, the sources added. On last Friday and Saturday too, Pakistan had fired mortars in KG sector to blow up fencing to make way for infiltrators
