| Chill grips Jammu again, thick fog hit rail, air service | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Jan 18: Entire Jammu city and its outskirts today covered under thick blanket of fog with people continuing to reel under chilly waves since yesterday. The maximum temperature slipped to 11.8 degree Celsius, nearly seven degrees below normal while the minimum temperature dipped to 4.2 degree Celsius, about two degrees below normal.
Besides, poor visibility in the region also affected the movement of trains and air services in Jammu and most of the trains were running behind their schedule.
Talking to the Early Times, Dr M K Khushu, Chief Scientist Agrometeorology, said that the maximum and minimum temperature in Jammu region was plummeted to 11.8 degree Celsius and 4.2 degree Celsius respectively. “The sudden falls in temperature recorded due to high humidity in the atmosphere which was recorded at 90 per cent. Couple of days back, the humidity was 55 per cent,” he said, adding that there is no possibility of any immediate rains.
Reports said that the plains in Jammu region were reeling under biting cold waves and dense fog since last night and the situation remained till late this evening.
Official sources informed that foggy conditions also disrupted the arrival and departure of trains due to low visibility along the rail track.
“Pooja Express, which usually arrives at Jammu Railway Station around 6.15 p.m, reached here over three hours late than its scheduled time at 9.15 pm while Jammu Mail arrived at 7.30 p. m instead of 4.15 pm which was its schedule time,” maintained sources.
Sources further informed that Malwa Express arrived at Jammu Railway Station nearly five hours late than its schedule time at around 3.45 p.m instead of 11 a.m.
“Shalimar Express, Uttar Smarak Kranti, Rajdhani Express, and Jehlum Express were also running behind schedule time,” said sources.
The thick blanket of fog also disrupted the normal movement of aircrafts at Jammu Airport.
Sources said that all the flights of Jet Airways, Spice Jet, Indian Air Line, and Kingfisher Airlines landed late against their scheduled timing after 12.30 p.m at Jammu Airport. Sources further informed that a flight of ‘Go Air’ managed its successful landing at 11 a.m while flights from Srinagar to Jammu were cancelled due to low visibility. |
