Jammu, Jan 18: Heavily armed infiltrators made two unsuccessful attempts to enter Jammu and Kashmir today by breaching the International Border (IB) from Suchetgarh and Kanachak areas of this district, official sources said.
BSF troops manning Indo-Pak border spotted a group of about five militants trying to damage fencing after entering the Indian territory from Suchetgarh in R S Pura sector of Jammu district, the sources said.
The infiltrators managed to escape after the BSF patrol party fired at them, the sources said.
Another infiltration bid by a group of militants was foiled by BSF near Tent Border Out post in Kanachak this morning, officials said.
It was 11th infiltration bid by militants in the past two weeks in the Jammu region.
Intelligence agencies have sounded an alarm to the security forces regarding terrorist outfits, with active support of Pakistan Army and Rangers, making desperate attempts to push in trained militants stationed at various launch pads across the border.
As per official reports, 433 infiltration attempts were made by militants from across the border last year, which were 91 more than 2008.
Intelligence reports said as many as 105 trained militants had managed to successfully infiltrate into this side of Jammu and Kashmir in 2009. |
