| UPA fails to control price hike: BJP | | |
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 19
Stepping up its tirade against the UPA government in the Centre for its ‘failure’ to bring down the prices of essential commodities, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took out a protest rally in the city markets here today. The protest was staged as a part of party’s scheduled programmes against price rise at Mandal levels throughout the country. The BJP activists from Jammu East Mandal held massive protest demonstration outside Rani Park followed by rally, which started from Rani Park area and after passing through various markets it culminated at Purani Mandi Chowk. The protestors also burnt the effigy of the Congress led UPA. Led by BJP district president, Rajesh Gupta, the party activists were festooned with garlands of different vegetables and pulses, besides carrying placards with slogans against the UPA Government. Rajesh Gupta, while charging the present Congress led UPA at the centre with its total failure to think about survival of a common man, alleged that a strange situation has been prevailing in the country where neither the Congress nor any of its coalition partners in the UPA has shown any concern over the rise in prices of essential items. He said that manifold rise in the prices of food items and other essential commodities have added more problems to the already suffering people, adding that the root cause of the price rise is the “anti-poor” and “pro-capitalist” policies of the UPA Government. Equating the price table of essential items during the BJP led NDA and the present Congress led UPA, Rajesh Gupta said BJP’s commitment for welfare and survival of a common man and firm determination to not allow any one indulge in black marketing and hoarding did not witness any price rise during its six years rule of NDA. He asked the UPA to take immediate and effective steps to provide respite to the people who are made to suffer due to price rise. Yudhvir Sethi, Shiv Kumar Gupta, Jaideep Sharma, Vikram Randhawa, Sunil Dogra, Ramesh Sharma, Kuldeep Kandhari, Anil Masoom, Ashwani Sharma, Karan Singh, Dhan Swaroop, Pardeep Sharma, Lalit Sharma, Vijay Mahajan, Vidya Devi, Kanta Devi, Ajesh Mangotra, Shashikant Sapolia, Pardeep Lengeh, Gurcharan Singh, Ashok Lambar, Bittu Kumar, Girdhari Lal, Vijay Mehra, Sanjeev Gupta, Vijay Gupta, Rajinder Kumar, Manu and Sunny Sehgal were prominent among those who took part in the protest demonstration
