| Kashmiri stage play enthrals audience at Abhinav Theatre | | | Early Times Report Jammu , Jan 19 On the second day of the fortnight long drama festival at Abhinav Theatre Natya Karmi Theatre’s “Choper Yee Gaash” play was staged on Tuesday. Written by Rakesh Roshan Bhat, the play was directed by Rohit Bhat while Rakesh Tickoo, Sunil Sharma, Arvin Tickoo, Daizy Bazaz, Kusum Dhar, and Bihari Lal and others played key roles in the play. Interestingly, Choper Yee Gaash highlights the agony of the Kashmiri diaspora with particular focus on the Kashmiri migrant community which has been out of its native place for about two decades now. Through the play the migrant community’s theatre artists tried to convey both the agony as well as progression of the community. On one hand the play projected the pain of migration and on the other it exuded shades of hope. Commenting on his play, Rohit Bhat, who directed Choper Yee Gaash, said that his play was an attempt on part of the migrant artists to bring to the limelight the conditions that they and the members of their community have had to face during the past two decades of migration. The play Chopper Yee Gaash reflected the issues that concern the Kashmiri diaspora in an unpretentious and open manner. And that is what made it click with the audience, many of whom could easily identify with the characters being portrayed on stage. Speaking about the essence of the drama festival, Secretary Academy, Zaffar Iqbal Manhas said that development and promotion of culture was the first priority of the Cultural Academy and he and his team would leave no stone unturned to project and promote the performing art traditions of the state. One of the prominent highlights of the day was that it witnessed presence of myriad people representing different ideologies assembling at a common platform for having a look at the stage play and feel the agony of the migrant community. Before concluding Sr. Drama Instructor, Cultural Academy, Dr. Sudhir Mahajan presented the vote of thanks. He also conducted the programme proceedings.
