Since the terrorism unleashed the terror blood smeared roads spotted with pieces human organs, media in State has always in a fix to portray it or not but the war on terror being chiefly fought in terrorism ridden state finally has to arrive in drawing rooms and bedrooms with all its shocks and horror.
The gory drama of suicide attack, police action on protestors live on television screens makes a story not to be missed certainly not for the victims but for many of the viewers and this has become a compulsion for not only the electronic media but also the print media to serve what the majority of people want to see.
A young man who burns tyres on street to protest load-shedding and a bullet ridden body of a terrorist, vandalizing gift shops in protest of Valentine day and shops of other community during communal tensions- the things what the present day’s media is offering brushing aside the success story of a rural youth man who tops in IAS or a NGO working for the poor people or running a de addiction camp.
Should we need to continue this under the banner of the freedom of the press? Or should it not that too in the good of the society, state and the nation as well? But where should the line be drawn and who will draw this line? Is the million dollar question another question which needs to be replied -Should system always be blamed for the problems?
Every individual has different opinion on this issue whatever the observations be from different individual some justified it as society must know what the so called ‘Jihadis’ do in the name of ‘Jihad’ while others differ from this saying the terror soaked news items may leave a post affect among the future generations and cautions about it.
Some even blaming the media said US media didn’t portrayed the pictures of world greatest tragedy on 9/11 in which 2,973 persons and the 19 hijackers died as a result of the attacks on World Trade Centre (WTC) while here we even dared to telecast the whole hostage drama on 26/11.
“Should we term it ‘freedom of press’ or personal choice of the media what this even was reported to halt counter insurgency operation as terrorist were aware of the commandoes movements through media, said Harish Sharma further adding if the action would not have delayed some more hostages would have been saved.
A prominent consultant psychiatrist Dr Jagdish Thapa too has warned that because of repeated telecast of gory incidents, patients suffering from depression and anxiety are facing relapse, cases of post stress traumatic disorder (PSTD) are increasing alarmingly and children are adopting aggressive ways.
And it is the high time to draw a line to portray the news in a highly fractured society to determine where the buck stops.
