| Lady doctor among three killed in mishap | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 19: A lady doctor and two other persons were killed while seven others sustained critical injuries when a Tata Sumo carrying them skidded off the road at Nagrota near here this morning and plunged into a 300-ft-deep gorge.
The ill-fated sumo (JK02AF/3264) was on its way from Jammu to Katra.
Police sources said the mishap occured at Kowr Jagir, Nagrota, at about 9 am due to overspeeding and low visibility on the road caused by dense fog.
Soon after they came to know about the incident from some locals, cops led by Nagrota police station SHO, Inspector Nazir Ahmad Dar, reached the spot and started the rescue operation.
Sources said the cops lifted all the 10 injured occupants of the vehicle, including driver, to the roadside from where they were evcauated to the GMC Hospital in police vehicles.
Dr Sona Dogra of Trikuta Nagar, Mulkh Raj of R S Pura and Amit Sharma of Gangyal were pronounced brought dead by the doctors.
Sources said Dr Sona was going to the Katra hospital where she was posted.
After post-mortem, the bodies of all the dead persons were handed over to their family members for last rites.
The injured were identified as driver Bhajan Lal of Suankha, Vijaypur, Dr Updesh, Vinod Pandita of Nagrota, Raj Kumar of Ramnagar, Rakesh Kumar of Katra, Davinder Singh of Sainik Colony and Joginder of Billawar.
The condition of Dr Updesh was stated to be critical as he had sustained a head injury.
A case in this connection stands registered at the concerned police station.
