| Six cops injured in IED blast in Srinagar | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 19: In a major strike ahead of Republic Day, unidentified militants set off an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Pulwama district of south Kashmir wounding two police officers and four guards.
The IED was detonated last night at around 10.30 pm at Bajkul-Kuchlaman bridge when SDPO Amarjeet Singh and SHO Javid Ahmad were returning after patrolling in Tral, 45 kms from here, SP Awantipora, Bashir Khan told PTI.
The two officers and four of their guards, who were travelling in two vehicles were slightly injured in the explosion. However, all of them were discharged after first aid and joined their duties, Khan said.
Asked if anyone has been arrested in connection with the attack, the SP said no one was arrested so far but investigation has started to bring the culprits to book.
The IED was planted beneath the iron bridge constructed by Army over a decade back and the blast rendered it unsafe for traffic, police sources said.
"The blast damaged a portion of the bridge which connects Tral town with Awantipora via Nawdal," they said.
No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the attack, they said adding that the entire area has been sealed and security tightened.
Meanwhile in another incident, special police officer (SPO) Muzaffar Ahmad was injured when militants travelling in a Srinagar-bound mini-bus opened fire at a police party at Sangam, 35 kms from here on Srinagar-Jammu national highway in Anantnag district, they said.
