| Amidst Congress infighting NC gets away with icing on the cake | | Rashpal, Bukhari, Shameema are VCs with MoS rank | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 19: In the middle of Congress infighting the major ruling partner National Conference has quietly strengthened its organizational forte which may brighten its fortune in the upcoming Panchayat elections.
Of four positions carrying the rank, status, protocol and ‘ambitions’ of Ministers of State, the National Conference has grabbed three, leaving the Congress guessing for fourth one. The sudden move of appointing vice chairpersons to three boards –two long defunct and one newly created –has raffled up feathers in the Congress circles even as sources in both parties said that decision was taken after consultation with the top Congress leadership.
The Government has appointed Vice Chairpersons to three advisory board with the status of a Minister of State. All three nominees are the National Conference leaders –two sitting legislators and one former MLA. Chief Minister shall be Chairperson of three Boards.
National Conference MLA from Kalakote Kunwar Rashpal Singh has been nominated as Vice Chairman of the Advisory Board for Development of Kissans (farmers). Earlier, the Government accorded sanction to the constitution of an Advisory Board for the Development of Kissans in the State under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister. It may be recalled here that an announcement for the constitution of Advisory Board for Welfare of Kissans was made by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during a party meeting in November.
Through another order, former National Conference MLA Syed Mushtaq Ahmed Bukhari has been appointed as Vice Chairpersons of the Pahari Advisory Board. Ann official spokesman said, “in suppression of all previous Government orders, the Government today reconstituted the Advisory Board for development of Pahari speaking people. The Chief Minister will be Chairman of the reconstituted Board with Mushtaq Ahmad Shah, Bukhari former MLA Surankote, its Vice Chairman with the status of a Minister of State”.
Meanwhile, the government has appointed Shamima Firdous, MLA as Chairperson, Jammu and Kashmir State Commission for Women with the status of a Minister of State.
The government has left the post of Vice Chairperson Gujjar Advisory Board unfilled for now. It is learnt that this position may be offered to some Congress leader.
