| Burglars failed to loot Grameen Bank, burn files | | |
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 20: After their unsuccessful attempt to loot money kept in the heavy chest, unidentified burglars set ablaze some files and other important documents of the Jammu and Kashmir Grameen Bank (JKGB) in its branch at Phalaian Mandal near here on Tuesday night. Police sources said some burglars last night entered the Falain Mandal JKGB branch by lifting the shutter with the help of an iron rod. They tried to break open the chest with the help of iron rod and screw drivers, but failed to do so. Sources said some files and other important bank documents were burnt by the burglars at about three places inside the premises. Several files and papers were found scattered on the floor. It seemed as if the burglars were looking for some loan files, the sources added, saying it could also be the handiwork of some loan defaulters. The matter came to light this morning when the bank employees as usual came to office. The bank manager Lalit Sharma later brought the matter to the notice of the Falain Mandal police post. Sources said cops soon reached the spot and restricted the movement of employees and other people inside the premises so that the scene of crime was not disturbed. Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) experts later took finger prints from the spot. The foot prints could not be found, the sources added. Dog squad was also pressed into service. Some suspects were said to have been taken into custody by police during the course of their investigation. It may be mentioned that 10 days back, two teenagers had allegedly looted nearly nine lakh rupees from the Gool branch of the Jammu Central Cooperative Bank.
