| Leh experiences cold, day gets warm in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 21 Leh town experienced light while the upper reaches received heavy snowfall this morning. Night remained cold but the day was warm in the Kashmir valley, where people were offering special prayers for snowfall and rains to end the long dry spell. After some improvement in the minimum temperature, there was a light snowfall this morning in the town, a resident told a news agency over phone from Leh. The caller said rooftops, electric poles and trees had turned white when people woke up today. However, traffic was plying on all routes as snow melted as the day progressed. A weather office spokesman told here that the minimum at Leh was minus 7 degrees against yesterday's minus 14 degrees. He said snowfall occurred in the town because of improvement in the temperatures. At Kargil it was minus 8 degrees against yesterday's minus 10. However, the upper reaches in the Ladakh region, including Zojila pass, on 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh National Highway, received moderate to heavy snowfall since last night. The highway has been closed since December for six winter months due to snowfall and slippery road conditions. The state and Centre has already announced to construct a tunnel at Zojila to make the Highway all-weather road.
