| Harsh with the army | | | Sir, In the past two or three days, the book release by the worthy President of Pakistan has generated a lot of heat and dust. Thanks to the selfish, motley crowd of netas and babus, India is blessed with, there has been no well thought out and reasoned response to General Musharraf’s half-truths. Which in effect has negated the sacrifices made by our gallant jawans and officers during the Kargil operation. This does not come as a surprise to us "veterans," since time and again it has been our experience that the glory earned by our gallant soldiers is invariably negated and forgotten by the nation, both at the negotiating table and other forums. We do not realise that the adversary is too clever and has always exploited our weaknesses. Former Chief of Army Staff V.P. Malik is rightly feeling peeved at the unexpected silence on the part of the powers that be. The need of the hour was a well-thought-out strong rebuttal of the Pakistan President’s canards. He has done enough damage to our national pride. Let us at least do some damage control.
