| Court rejects Himanshu’s bail application | | Dr. Aparna suicide case | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 21-Rejecting the bail application of Dr. Himanshu Sharma, son of Dr. B R Sharma, allegedly involved in abetment to suicide by Dr. Aparna daughter Kamal Saini DIG Police, Sub-Judge Jammu M R Chak observed that case is still at the initial stage and the statements of the important witnesses are yet to be recorded. After hearing senior Advocate Sunil Sethi appearing for the state and Advocates Ved Raj Wazir and LK Sharma appearing for the accused, the Sub Judge observed that a young lady has died in the prime of her life and the co-accused, allegedly with the help of accused Himanshu, made her to take the extreme step of committing suicide. Joint custodial interrogation of co-accused Dr. Lata and accused Himanshu is necessary for the commission of investigation. The accused at this stage does not deserve to be admitted to bail as such the bail application is dismissed. The accused in his bail application submitted that he was engaged with the deceased in the month of February, 2009 and after sometime he was told that engagement of deceased was done by her parents against her wishes. He further submitted that deceased was compelling him to prolong solemnizing the marriage as she had affairs with some other boy and prayed that accused being innocent be admitted to bail so that he can defend himself. On the other hand the prosecution contested this contention of the accused and held him involved in a heinous offence punishable u/s 306 RPC of having abetted the suicide of Dr. Aparna, a young medico in the prime of her youth. The prosecution further maintained that the investigation conducted so far reveal that the accused had tortured the deceased mentally because of his relation with Dr. Lata which has ultimately forced her to commit suicide. That the call details of accused, deceased and co-accused Dr. Lata leave no room to doubt, about the involvement of the accused. Objecting the bail application the prosecution submitted that the investigation of the case is at preliminary stage where statements of the witnesses are to be recorded u/s 164-A Cr PC. The offence committed by the accused has sent shocking waves in the society and the family of the girl is terrified, the prosecution further submitted and prayed for rejecting the bail of the accused.
