| Sa Ma Pa’s fest ending tomorrow: Rustam thanks media | | | Early Times report Jammu , Jan 21 SaMaPa Aalap Festival 2010, the premium music festival of Jammu and Kashmir, has engrossed music connoisseurs in music for the last two weeks. The festival commenced on 8th January has now reached its last phase and will conclude on 23rd January. The next 2 days SaMaPa aims at bringing a musical balm at border areas like R.S. Pora and Rajouri which will also feature performances by renowned Santoor maestro & Composer Abhay Rustum Sopori. The 14th Day of the 4th Annual ‘SaMaPa Aalap Festival’ held at Gandhi Memorial College, Bantalab spellbound the audience with scintillating performance by Ragini Rainu and Harish Tiwari. ‘SaMaPa Aalap Festival 2010' is being presented by SaMaPa (Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts) in collaboration with ‘Jammu and Kashmir Tourism’ & ‘J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages’. Ragini Rainu, India's young Sufi Diva and a renowned name in the field of Sufi singing, gave a soulful recital presenting 3 compositions composed by Pt. Bhajan Sopori. She started her recital with 2 Sufi Qulam’s by Baba Bulleshah ‘Ke Karda’ and ‘Ghungat Olay’ and followed by Kabir Bhajan ‘Ras Gagan Gufa’. Her presentation showed a strong base of classical Gayaki embedded with Tayyari and rich Bhava. Singing raw and robust, her exuberance and her inimitable voice brought to life the ecstatic expression of Sufism, each rendition drowning the audience in the richness of this tradition and sending it into raptures. A disciple of the Legendary Santoor maestro and music composer Pandit Bhajan Sopori, Ragini representing the Sufiana Gharana of Kashmir singing primarily the structured Sufi Ang and also the Ghazal & poetic Kafi genres. Unquestionably brilliant, she is equally at ease with the traditional genres as with the modern nuances. With her individualistic style and a rich repertoire of compositions from her Guru, she is the rightful heir to the legacy of Sufi music. She has been honoured with various awards including the prestigious Dogri Award and Sur Shree Award, etc. She was ably accompanied by Sarit Das on Tabla and Ustad Sajjad Ahmed on Harmonium. The 2nd performance of the day featured classical vocal by Dr. Harish Tiwari of Kirana Gharana, a disciple of the legendary vocalist Bharat Ratna Pt. Bhimsen Joshi. He had his initial training in music from Shri Ajeet Bhattacharya and later from Acharya Nandanji and Acharya Kundanlal Sharma. He thus brilliantly blends the styles of Kirana and Shyamchaurasia Gharana and has a Ph.D in music from Delhi University. Harish is amongst the foremost vocalists of the present generation and has a beautiful blend of Ragadari, Bhava and Tayyari. He started his recital with Raga Multani presenting Aalap, Bandish in Vilambit Ektala ‘E Gokul Gaon ka’ and Drutlaya Teentala ‘Kagan Mudriya’. This was followed by 2 Compositions in Raga Basant in Madhyalaya Teentala ‘Phagwa Brij Dhekan ko’ and Drutlaya Ektala ‘Phoolwa Binat Dar Dar’. He concluded his recital with Bhajan in Raga Bhairavi. He was ably accompanied by Mithilesh Jha on Tabla and Ustad Sajjad Ahmed on Harmonium. Kailash and Aman, two young students of IMFA accompanied him on the Tanpura. The programme was attended by a large number of music lovers, students, staff and management of the College.
