| Road network Govt’s top priority: Bhalla | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, JAN 22: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Mr. Raman Bhalla has said that the coalition Government is according top priority to road connectivity, this being an essential ingredient for speedy and holistic growth of any area. The Minister was speaking after laying the foundations of lanes and drains at Nanak Nagar, Sanjay Nagar, Model Town in Gangyal and Garden Estate, coming up at a cost of Rs. 21 lakh. Mr. Bhalla asked the executing agencies to complete these upgradation and construction works by next month for the benefit of the people. He said that the Government under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah has taken various exemplary initiatives to revolutionise the developmental scenario of the State. He said focused attention is being given to improve basic amenities like augmentation of water and power supply besides provision of better healthcare, road connectivity and imparting quality education to the children in every nook and corner of the State. Mr. Bhalla said that a comprehensive plan has been prepared for developing all the remote and far-off areas on modern lines at par with urban areas. The Minister said that coalition Government has launched various welfare schemes for transformation of socio-economic conditions of the people, especially weaker sections of the society and launched several schemes for the purpose. He called upon the people to come forward and avail benefits of these schemes. Later, the Minister also attended the Seminar on ‘Socio-Economic of Kashmiri Pandit women since Exodus’ organised by the Centre for Human Study University of Jammu in collaboration with Vishwa Bharti College of Education (VBCE) at Akalpur. Director, Centre for Women’s Study, University of Jammu, Dr. Poonam Dhawan, Secretary VBCE Prof. A. N. Sadhu, Principal VBCE, Mrs. Aneeta Koul, Dr. Jitender Singh, teaching and non-teaching staff members were present on the occasion. Addressing the seminar, Mr. Bhalla said that displaced families, particularly women folk of Kashmir valley have faced lot of difficulties during the turmoil. He said that Kashmir is incomplete without Kashmiri Pandits. He said that coalition Government was fully aware of Kashmiri migrants’ problems and was making concerted efforts to redress these in a phased manner. He said that coalition Government has already constituted an Apex Committee for redressing their problems. He said the Centre Government has already approved Rs. 1618.40 crore for proper rehabilitation of displaced families and 3000 posts for unemployed educated youth. Bhalla said that coalition Government is keen to redress the problems of refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971. He said that various initiatives have been under active consideration of Central and State Governments and hoped that all the issues would be simultaneously solved for the over benefit of these people. He said the Government has approved Rs. 49 crore as land deficiency compensation for refugees. He said that the compensation is being disbursed by organising open darbars in their respective colonies.
