| BJP stages protest at against price hike | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 22 In connection with Party’s week long nation-wide protest against the price rise, BJP activists today held Mandal level demonstrations at different places in Jammu region. Janipur Mandal of BJP, under its President Praduman Singh held a massive protest demonstration at Sarwal Chowk of Jammu west constituency which was led by Jammu West MLA Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta. The protesters were raising slogans against the UPA Government at Centre and NC led coalition in the State for their utter failure in containing the prices of essential commodities. Addressing the demonstrators, Prof Gupta lambasted the Congress Government for making tall claims of bumper crops while the price hike has exposed the hollowness of these claims. There is no excuse for the Government to hike the prices, he added. Coming down heavily on pretentious claims of the State Government of following financial austerity, he asked it as to why the strength of the State Cabinet is the 15 percent of the total strength of the Legislature while the national norm is that it should be only 10 percent. Moreover the ruling party members have already been appointed heads of various bodies and conferred status of MoS to further burden State exchequer, he added. Party leaders namely Ramesh Arora, Sat Sharma, Chander Mohan Sharma, Usha Choudhary, Surinder Sharma, Rajinder Sharma, Kuldeep Magotra, Ravinder Gupta, Sureshta Jamwal, Dinesh Gupta, Balwan Singh, Kulbushan Vohra, Rakesh Gupta, Bal Khajuria, Amreek Singh, Raj Kumar, Parshotam Lal, Jagan Nath, Meera Sarmal, Dinesh Sharma and Kishore Chandan were prominent who took part in the protest demonstration. Similar demonstrations were held by Raipur-Domana Mandal at Muthi Chowk, which was led by party MLA Bharat Bhushan and Akhnoor District President Suraj Padha. JMC corporators including Omi Khajuria, Ashok Singh Manhas, Sheela Handoo and Nirja Khajuria besides senior leader of Mandal Hans Raj and Mukesh Sharma also took part in it. Sunderbani, Nowshera, Bhaderwah and Billawar mandals also organized similar protests.
